Management of Paediatric Burns
The salient points of discussion of the Surgical Management of Paediatric Burns:
1) Burns in a child especially scald burns are common.
2) Managing this may seem very simple- however the best result in terms of early healing, appearance and scar can be obtained with the appropriate specialised dressings and debridement and skin grafting done early.
3) Delay in treatment will result in difficult to manage scars and contractures.
4) Contracture release and skin grafting or flap helps to restore function and can be done - should be done even in a child who is less than 1 year.
5) Pressure garments, Scar massage, Silicone gel sheets, appropriate surgery, intralesional steroids are the mainstay in scar management of burns.
